Broome North Primary School provides a specialist Science program for students from Year 1 to Year 6. Each class takes part in a dedicated one-hour lesson, led by a specialist teacher and designed to engage students through a mixture of explicit teaching, hands-on and inquiry-based learning. This approach ensures that students build strong scientific understanding and skills while developing curiosity and confidence as learners.
As of 2023, we have introduced ‘Two Way Science‘ for our upper-grade students, which incorporates the use of local Aboriginal language (Yawuru) words and knowledge seamlessly integrated with science facts about the local environment. This innovative approach is endorsed by the Western Australian Department of Education and is part of a larger initiative being rolled out across numerous schools in Western Australia. It ensures that our students receive a well-rounded and enriching education in the field of Science, deeply rooted in the ecological heritage of our community.
