Healthy Food and Drink Policy

We are dedicated to fostering an environment that encourages learning and instils healthy eating and physical activity habits for lifelong well-being. We are in a prime position to support healthy eating and reinforce nutrition lessons taught in the classroom by showcasing tasty and affordable healthy food and drink choices.

In addition to requiring students to engage in at least two hours of physical activity per week, our Healthy Food and Drink Policy is another measure to ensure our children stay fit and healthy. Our canteen uses a ‘traffic light coding’ system, and we encourage parents and caregivers to consider this approach when packing their child’s lunch box.

Green foods fill the menu and include breads, cereals, vegetables, fruits, legumes, reduced fat dairy products, lean meat, water and low-fat milk-based drinks.

Yellow foods are selected carefully and are limited e.g. full fat, pastry foods, snack food bars, cakes, muffins, biscuits and ice-creams.

Red foods are off the menu and include confectionery, pastry items, sandwich meats and deep-fried foods.

We do not force students to eat and provide adequate time to consume recess and lunch. Students are encouraged not to throw away food and take their rubbish and unfinished food scraps home. This practice helps parents understand what their child is eating and opens up opportunities to discuss what to pack and the traffic light system with their children.
